Truth VS Falsehoods
“Justice Demands the Truth.”
Falsehood
Not caring about funding for domestic violence programs or crime victims
The Truth
We have implemented victim focused and victim centered practices since the first day I became District Attorney. My Office is one of the most innovative in the nation when it comes to providing services to crime victims, including:
A Pro-Active District Attorney Victim’s Services Unit
Community Prosecutors
Gilroy Strong Resiliency Center
The Human Trafficking Unit
The Parent Project
VTA Family Assistance Center
Child Advocacy Center
Youth County Task Force
Bend the Arc Community Grants
You can find detailed information about these programs in the REFORMS section of this website.
The Truth
DA Rosen’s leadership launched and continues to lead the running of the County's Children's Advocacy Center in San Jose where all services for sexually and physically abused children are now housed under one roof. The Center opened in 2021, during the pandemic even, and is thriving thanks to Jeff's leadership providing the best medical care, law enforcement investigations, and victim advocacy for child victims.

The Truth
My Office indicted two high ranking members of the Sheriff’s inner circle including the Under Sheriff on bribery charges and prosecuted three correctional officers for murdering a mentally ill inmate.

Falsehood
Gone easy on law enforcement misconduct
The Truth
My Office has prosecuted more than 50 police officers for crimes committed on and off duty including, drunk driving, excessive use of force, drug trafficking, grand theft, perjury, assault, possession of child pornography, domestic violence, rape, and murder.
I prosecuted and convicted three correctional officers for the murder of mentally ill inmate Michael Tyree. Such murder convictions are very rare and there have only been thirty-two in U.S. history including Derek Chauvin for murdering George Floyd.
Falsehood
Poor treatment of the vulnerable people of the society.
The Truth
This is me with Deputy District Attorney, Alaleh Kianerci. She brilliantly prosecuted the Brock Turner case and then helped change state law to prevent the next Brock Turner case.
As District Attorney, my Office deals with society’s most vulnerable people every day. They are called crime victims. This is especially true when those crime victims are women who have been sexually assaulted. The most pronounced example of this was the sexual assault of Chanel Miller by Stanford student Brock Turner.
To begin with, we vigorously prosecuted and convicted Mr. Turner of all charges which called for a significant prison sentence for the terrible crimes he committed against Ms. Miller. When the Judge handed down a weak sentence of only three months in jail for Mr. Turner, my Office acted. Next, when Ms. Miller (then known anonymously as Emily Doe) made what was one of the most profound victim’s statements I have ever heard, we worked hard to ensure the statement was widely distributed. Those efforts led to what was nothing less than a viral circulation of the statement. Within days the statement was one of the most read news stories in the world. Thanks to Chanel Miller’s bravery and my Office’s understanding that other potential victims needed to hear her words.
I didn’t stop there. One problem with the Brock Turner sentencing is that California state law didn’t treat the sexual assault of an unconscious victim the same as the sexual assault of a conscious victim. I knew that the law needed to change. So, I worked with Assemblyman Evan Low and the Chair of the CA Women’s Caucus, Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia to draft and pass AB 2888 and AB 701. These bills closed sexual assault loopholes to prevent kid-glove treatment for the next Brock Turner and guarantee that rapists go to state prison.
